Washington County is located in the southwestern corner of the Brazos County and has a population of 35,805 according to the 2020 Census. The City of Brenham is the county seat of Washington County. Washington County was originally a municipality of Mexico prior to its reorganization as a Texas County. The county is named for President George Washington. The county is home to Washington on the Brazos, which is the site of the signing of the Texas Declaration of Independence
